New Year's Elopement at Makena Cove, Maui
Aloha friends! Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve shared a gallery. What can I say, it turns out that living through a pandemic is quite the life-upheaving experience. 2020 turned out to be a quiet year for weddings here on Maui…but the good news is that 2021 is shaping up to be my busiest year yet!
This was my first elopement of the new year, and what a stunning celebration it was! Itoro and Patrick live in the Bay Area of California. Although they had never visited Maui prior to their elopement, they scoped out locations online and settled on Makena Cove. Makena Cove is an iconic, popular location to get married on Maui, and it can get quite busy sometimes. It’s a cozy beach that is adored by sunbathing tourists and local fishermen alike.
Itoro and Patrick had their hearts set on saying their vows at Makena Cove, and the job of a great Maui elopement photographer is to make it appear as though it’s just the couple saying “I do”. Although this beach was so crowded that we struggled to get photo ops that made use of the beautiful white sand, I think that I succeeded in capturing magical images of this couple’s wedding day.
I ask each of my clients if they have a “must have” photo idea for their wedding day that is important to them. About half of my clients don’t have anything particular in mind, while the other half might have a particular scene or image in mind that they want me to capture. For Itoro and Patrick, the one image that was important to them was a stroll to the water’s edge while looking back on the camera. You’ll see that I captured this pose a few different times for them. They also had a fun sign that they wanted to incorporate into their photos (“Can’t quarantine our love”— how cute is that!).
Ho'omaika'i 'ana (Congratulations), Itoro and Patrick! It was my pleasure to be your Maui elopement photographer!
