Oneloa (Ironwoods) Beach, Maui Elopement Photography
Shelby and Tanner’s Maui elopement might go down as one of my top favorites of 2019! Not only are they an absolutely lovely couple (as pretty much all of my clients are), but they opted for some unique touches that made their elopement really fun to photograph. Their story is also one that reminds me of exactly why I love to photograph elopements and intimat/microweddings…
This couple was already deep into wedding planning when they opted to elope on Maui instead. They had booked a venue and a photography back home in Kentucky, but things were getting a little too stressful. So, they forfeited their deposits and bought a ticket to Maui to get married on the beach! This embodies why I love elopements so much— the focus is solely on the couple and their love for each other. It’s not about pleasing family members or dazzling guests with expensive trinkets (aka wedding favors). Their day, their way.
This elopement started off with a first look on the stunning cliffs surrounding Oneloa (Ironwoods) Beach. There are many options when it comes to first looks, but this location was ideal due to the breathtaking scenery and how private this area was during this time of day.
Following the ceremony, I captured some formal portraits with the bride, groom, and the groom’s sister, Nicole, who was present to witness the marriage. All three are originally from Ohio, the state where I was also born! It was great to connect with fellow Midwesterners.
The elopement concluded with a magical “trash the dress” moment of Shelby and Tanner running into the ocean and passionately kissing! So. Much. Fun. I honestly didn’t want to end this session, but we ran out of light!
Ho'omaika'i 'ana (Congratulations), Shelby and Tanner! It was a pleasure to be your Maui elopement photographer! I hope to see you back again on Maui soon!
