Upcountry Maui Wedding | A + A

On August 14th, Anna and Asbjorn joined their lives together in marriage during a simple, yet elegant wedding in Upcountry Maui, Hawai’i. Anna was borned and raised on Maui, while Asbjorn is from Denmark. They met and fell in love during a mission trip on the Big Island of Hawai’i.

The wedding took place at a stunning private venue located in Kula, Maui. The father-of-the-bride crafted a handmade cross for the couple to say their vows under, and guests were seated in a natural amphitheater. On the day of the wedding, the weather forecast predicted rain, but the rain held off. The couple opted not to do a traditional first look, but instead, they prayed together prior to the ceremony. The groom kept his eyes closed and back turned to keep the surprise of seeing his bride for the first time on their wedding day while she walked down the aisle.

After a traditional Hawaiian luau dinner, there was a brief sermon followed by song and worship. Perhaps one of the most touching parts of the day for me was witnessing the newlyweds sing and perform together. The bride had written a song as a surprise for her beloved, and it was quite touching.

While photographing their wedding, I was often overwhelmed with the pure love and joy that Anna and Asbjorn exude for each other, which is strongly grounded in their shared faith and love for God. This was a particular special wedding for me because the family are good friends of mine, and I am honored that they chose me to be their wedding photographer. I wish Anna and Asbjorn a lifetime of love and happiness, and best wishes as they start building their new life together here on Maui. Ho'omaikai' ana (Congratulations)!
