Maui LGBTQ+ Elopement
C and A had originally planned to marry in France, but alas, the pandemic had other plans for this couple. C had vacationed on Maui many times, and it wasn’t hard to convince A that the island was an ideal spot for their elopement. They eloped on Maui, and then headed to Kauai for their honeymoon. I’m sure that France would have been lovely, but personally, I can’t think of a better way to get married than on a beach on Maui 💙(although obviously I’m a bit biased 😂).
This handsome couple reached out to me prior to their elopement to discuss their wedding clothing options. I advised them to stay away from bright neon colors and any clothing with lettering, words, or graphics. Textures and patterns can work well depending on the desired vibe, and the casual Hawaiian aloha vibe can be fun and laidback. That typically means that men will wear a button-down "Aloha" shirt with a fun Hawaiian print (usually flowers, palms, etc.). As you can see from the photos, this is what C and A opted for, and they did an amazing job of selecting complimentary colors that highlight the beautiful color of the ocean.
Although this couple opted for a more casual look, the incredible thing about eloping is that you can wear pretty much whatever you want! I’ve photographed black-tie, formal beach elopements, and then also more casual affairs, such as C and A’s elopement.
Summer brings larger swells to Maui’s south shore, and when we first arrived at the beach, there wasn’t much beach left at all due to the high tide and large waves. We almost ended up moving to a nearby beach that offers a more generous portion of sand, but C and A said that they didn’t mind getting their feet wet during the ceremony. I’m glad that we opted to stay at this location, because the light was so dreamy that afternoon!
Ho'omaika'i ana (Congratulations) on your marriage, C and A! It was an honor to be your Maui elopement photographer! I wish you the very best as you begin your new life as husband and husband 🏳️🌈
